Big Mek

"Here to fix your gubbinz!"

Big Meks are Orks who have become particularly large, powerful, and are innately skilled with technology. He uses his cobbled-together Orky technology to enhance the power and effectiveness of the Boyz. Given time and materials they can put together nearly any piece of technology into a deadly piece of crudely effective Ork weaponry.

Note that Da Boyz Hut has a 20% production bonus, giving the Big Mek a build time of 50 s.

Charge Bonus: once within 7 range of its target when on Assault stance, the Big Mek gains a +30% movement bonus to its current base speed, enabling it to quickly close the distance with other units into melee.

Tactics

Big Mek is one of the most versatile of the hero units, providing both strength and useful abilities. He is an excellent companion to Shoota Boyz for early harassment, as he is a powerful melee unit and a spotter for infiltrated units. He is also able to directly engage most commanders, exceptions being the more powerful Force Commander and Chaos Lord. While attached to a squad, his teleport ability is extended to every member of the squad. He then can bring a full squad of Slugga Boyz or Nobz directly into a cluster of ranged units, or make a quick retreat from danger. Big Mek also has the ability to repair, and while he cannot repair quickly, he can do it more efficiently than nearly any other repairer in the Dark Crusade. Once Big Mek's Kustom Gadjitz has been researched, he projects around him a forcefield which lowers the ranged damage that units near him receive (Note that in Dark Crusade researching the forcefield adds to Big Mek's build time). The gadjitz also provides him with a Tank Zappa. This ability allows him to freeze vehicles for a short time. As a Nob with a Power Claw requires a set up time, this ability allows for a fully kitted Nobz Squad to engage an otherwise fleeing foe. This tactic works wonders against Restored Monoliths and Baneblades.
