Mandrake Squad

"The banner....RAISE THE BANNER!"

Basic, front-line units, the Mandrakes are experts at camouflage and infiltration due to their Warp-tinged shadow skin. This special ability, combined with their innate cruelty and blood lust, makes the Mandrake a terrifying addition to Dark Eldar Forces.

Tactics

Mandrakes, while they are one of the most expensive capping units, are also one of the fastest, toughest, and most effective at combat. While you may not be able to afford more than 2-3 Mandrake squads early on, where other races can often make as many as 4-5 of them, they easily make up for their lack of numbers with their speed, being able to capture points faster than other racial equivalents in equal numbers, and can even be used as a main combat unit.

Early game, sending your first Mandrake squad to harass the opponent after capping a strategic point can be extremely helpful to disrupt enemy capping and won't slow your capping down much. If you make 3-4 Mandrake squads you can even send in your first squad to harass them extremely quickly.

If you plan to use your Mandrakes for more than capping and harassing, getting the Hall of Blood is an absolute necessity. The Archon and his squad are an extremely tough unit for something that moves so fast, and very helpful for soaking fire and damaging buildings. The Archon's ability is also extremely good for one using Mandrakes, as it can be used to root an enemy unit in place while your blades mutilate them. On top of the benefits of adding the Archon to your Mandrake army, the Hall of Blood also contains research for your Mandrakes which allows you to infiltrate them. Since melee units are much harder to see than ranged units while infiltrated, you can occasionally kill troops without the enemy even knowing, using this infiltration correctly. Even if the enemy does have detection, it is useful in case you pass by a critical location's line of sight, and to delay enemy fire until the last possible moment.

Before getting to the second tier, the Haemonculus' Laboratory is also a very important building for one who has a lot of Mandrakes on the field. Poisoned blades increase the damage dealt by Mandrakes by quite a bit for how fast they can access the upgrade, and the Daemonic Touch Research available after Tier 2 is again helpful for buffing the Mandrakes health and damage.
