Shield Drone

"Shield Activated."

One of the many types of hovering service drones the Tau Empire employs. The Shield Drone was created as a means of granting the Fire Warrior Team access to extra protection when coming under unexpected or heavy fire. The drone only has power to raise its shield for a limited time, but it provides the team with the time needed to either redeploy or simply eliminate the enemy threatening it.

Note: In Dark Crusade, the Shield Drone does not have an armor type assigned, so most weaponry will do either full damage or very little damage to this unit, depending on the weapon's default armor piercing value. It also has no sight radius.

Tactics

The Shield Drone's Energy Shield ability decreases damage taken from ranged attacks by 50% for 20 seconds. This greatly improves the squad's survivability in a firefight, particularly when combined with the Fire Warriors' impressive range and damage output. With two Shield Drones, this ability can be chained to last the squad throughout the entire fight (it cannot be chained in Dark Crusade).
